EMILIA CRUZ

Emilia Cruz is a Chicana artist residing in Ventura County, California.

“My work exemplifies the importance of representation, specifically women of color. I am exploring different ways in which I can depict vulnerability, self-love, and empowerment. I am heavily influenced by my cultural roots and wish to pay respect to my ancestral guides. Creating has given me a voice and a chance to mark my existence.”

Cruz is currently enrolled in Art Center College of Design working towards receiving a BFA in Illustration. This year she began teaching art classes for kids at Plaza de la Raza located in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles. Cruz has recently been commissioned by CNN en Español for Proyecto Ser Humano and for an upcoming Netflix series called Gente-fied directed by Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chavez. Her work has been displayed at many galleries on the west coast including Seattle, WA, Oakland, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
